Olen William Burgett, Jr.

Olen William Burgett, Jr., 91, of Clarksville, TN (formerly Canton, IL) passed away at home on Thursday, April 25, 2024.

Olen was born in Easton, IL on January 1, 1933 to Olen W. Burgett, Sr. and Rachel (Jockisch) Burgett. He married Dorotha DeRenzy on June 18, 1977.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dorotha Burgett, brother, Victor Burgett, sisters Jessie Lashbrook, Melora (Laura) Fornoff, Dorothy Lucille Farnam, Phyllis Goodin-Heitz and Dorothy Jepson, the mother of his children.

Olen is survived by son Alan Burgett, Clarksville, TN (formally of Hanna City, IL), Vickie Manus, Clarksville, TN; step-children Steven (Debby) DeRenzy of Canton, IL, and Christine (Kevin) DelMastro of Lewistown, IL; four step-grandchildren, Chad (Nicole) DeRenzy, Tad (Brandi) DeRenzy, Ashley DelMastro, all of Canton and Korey (Staci) DelMastro of St. David; two step-great-grandsons and four step-great-granddaughters, and one great-great-granddaughter.

Olen farmed in both Mason and Peoria counties for many years. He was employed by Keystone Steel and Wire from 1955-1960. In 1995 he retired from Moorman’s Manufacturing after 35 years of service as a sales representative.

Olen, a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church, Canton, IL, loved the Lord and his church family. As a greeter, he welcomed church family and visitors to services for many years.


Olen was a Veteran of the Army, being inducted in 1954. He also was a member of the NRA since 1966.

Olen was an avid hunter, reader, and western aficionado. He and Dorotha enjoyed traveling in the southwestern United States and Alaska. He loved gardening and generously shared his special sweetcorn and other vegetables. He also loved making the family recipe of homemade ice-cream for friends and family.

Services will be 11 am, Wednesday, May 8,2024 at Calvary Baptist Church in Canton, where visitation will be 1 hour prior to services.


Burial will follow in White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton.
