Richard L. Johnson

Richard L. “Dick” Johnson, 71, of Canton, passed away at 1:10 am, Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at the Renaissance Care Center in Canton. He was born on February 4, 1953 in Peoria to George and Lillian (Snider) Johnson. Dick was raised by his step-father Wiley “Gil” Gilmore. They all preceded him in death. Dick married the love of his life Darlene Tourtillott on July 13, 1974 in Fairview. They were about to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. She survives along with one son Thomas Johnson of Canton, two brothers; David (late Bonnie) Johnson of Peoria and Tim (Betsy) Gilmore of Canton and one sister Patricia (late Jeff) Reed of Farmington.

Dick worked at Caterpillar for 31 years, retiring in 2004. He was an avid tennis player with many awards. He also loved watching sports, especially the St Louis Cardinals and Chicago Bears. While in High School he played baseball and football.

The family would like to thank his tennis family, Renaissance Health Care and Traditions Hospice for all their love and support during his illness.

Cremation rites have been accorded through Oaks-Hines Funeral and Crematory in Canton. There will be a Celebration of Life held at a later date. Memorials can be made to the family c/o Mid America National Bank for his son Tom’s care. To leave online condolences please visit oakshinesfuneralhome.com
