Betty M. Wingerter

Betty M Wingerter, 89, of Canton, formerly of Astoria, gained her wings, Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at Farmington Village in Farmington.

Betty was born on April 11, 1935, on her Daddy’s 32nd birthday in Havana Illinois, to Adolph and Edna (Hickman) Niederer. She first married Richard Stage on February 18, 1957 in Peoria. He passed away on September 7, 2013. She is also preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Gerald Wingerter. He passed away on October 27, 2011. Also preceding her in death is her sister, Beulah Towery.

Betty is survived by her children, Robbin (Jodie) Kost of Canton, Richard (Vicki) Stage of Dunfermline, Ronald (Donna) Stage of Jacksonville Florida, and Rodney (Therasa “Terry”) Stage of Hopedale, Illinois. Step son, Robert Wingerter of Florida, one brother, Don (Delores) Niederer of Clinton Illinois, fourteen grandchildren, Connie, Cathy, Jeff, Aaron, Joseph, Laura, Nathan, Patricia, Hailey, Cassandra, Rodchelle, Gene, and Samantha, and twenty three great grandchildren.

Betty had a variety of jobs throughout her long life. Including but not limited to medical secretary at OSF, Graham Hospital Mason District Hospital, Culbertson Hospital, and Dr. Cercone, educational secretary at Spoon River College, and fan club secretary to Steve Hall and Shotgun Red of Brainerd MN. Betty was an election judge for many years. Betty was also the Astoria Town Clerk for 20 years.

While we will miss her so much, we know she is with her loved ones in heaven. She was a great lady and enjoyed life. The family wishes to thank Farmington Village and Compassus Hospice for all of the care of their mom and assistance in the end. She loved the staff at Farmington Village.

Memorials may be made to Fulton County Humane Society or to the Canton St. Jude’s Runners.

Cremation rites will be accorded and a burial of her ashes will take place at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 10:30 a.m.
