Jon R. Stanek

Jon R. Stanek of Fairview, Illinois passed on October 21, 2025 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois. Jon was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Ernest and Nadine Stanek (Brown) on January 19, 1946 and was raised in Marion, Iowa.

 Jon graduated from Marion High School in 1964 and was selected as the very first Merit Scholars to the University of Miami (FL), graduating with a degree in Marine Biology.  Jon worked for the Linn County (IA) and Fulton County (IL) Sheriff’s Departments as a deputy and later, served as rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service.

 Jon had and was an amazing father to one daughter, Heather Kitchen (Stanek) and son-in-law, Robert Kitchen. Jon was a father figure to Brenda Haley, Richard and David Stanek, and Heather Hunter. Jon was the proud grandparent of Chantal and Mikayla (Ricky) Kitchen.

 Jon is preceded in death by his sister, Linda O’Donnell.

 Jon loved spending time with his family, grand pets, friends, Fairview Café Wednesday Morning Breakfast group, and community. Jon loved the ocean, fishing, and hunting.

 Memorials can be made to the Fairview Fire Department in Jon’s honor. To best remember Jon, stop by the Fairview Café on a Wednesday morning and have some breakfast. Celebration of life to be held at later date.
