George Pat Dissman

George Pat Dissman, 89, of Havana, IL, always known to his family and friends as Pat, passed away on Saturday, July 2, 2022 at 5:36 a.m. at Mason District Hospital. Pat was born August 28, 1932 in Havana, Illinois, the son of Cecil A. “Bill” Dissman and Bessie L. Nott Dissman. He graduated from Lewistown High School in 1950 and then enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in France during the Korean conflict.


He married Leigh Ann Henderson on April 3, 1955 at Sinnett Chapel near Cuba, Illinois, and she survives. Pat and Leigh were married for 67 years, and were the parents of four children: Linda (Bill) Blessman of Havana; Nancy (Darrell) Pomeroy of Weeki Wache, FL; Greg (Linda) Dissman of Woodstock, GA; and Tina (Rex) Parker of Goshen, IN. The couple also have 17 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Pat was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Cheri Milne, and two brothers, Robert Dissman and Larry Dissman.

Pat worked as a siding and window contractor for 37 years and was the owner and operator of Aluminum Specialties Company in Havana. He and Leigh Ann retired to Florida in 1992, where Pat continued working as a contractor, specializing in pool and patio covers. Pat took great pride in his work and was well known throughout the area for the quality and craftsmanship of his projects. He hired and mentored many young men in his business over the years, and they often reached out to him to express their appreciation for his impact on their lives.

He was a member of Havana Masonic Lodge #88. Pat also enjoyed boating, fishing, working in his yard, and spending time with family. He especially cherished seeing his grandchildren and great grandchildren and always followed their activities and accomplishments. His storytelling and sense of humor were legendary and will be greatly missed.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6, 2022 at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana with visitation one hour prior to the service. VFW Post #6408 and American Legion Post #138 will provide military rites at the funeral home following the service, prior to leaving for the cemetery. Cremation rites will be accorded, and interment of the ashes will be at Sinnett Chapel Cemetery near Cuba, IL immediately following the service. Memorials may be made to Mason District Hospital. Hurley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements
