Marjorie M. Scrogum, 95, of Astoria, IL, passed away at 11:35 pm on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at her home. She was born on January 21, 1926 in Astoria, the daughter of George and Clara Mae (Stambaugh) Klinedinst. Married Marshall Devere Scrogum on January 12, 1947 in Astoria. Devere preceded Marjorie in death on January 21, 2020.
Also preceding her are her 2 sons, Terry and Jerry Scrogum, son-in-law, Dennis Dye, step-grandson, Justin Clayton, 3 sisters, Leona Ogden, Nelda Schnarr, and Vernadene Buswell, and 2 brothers Leroy and Forrest Klinedinst.
Survivors include her 3 daughters, Marsha (and Ray) Adkins of Astoria, Cheryl Dye of Canton, IL and Mary Sue (and Mark) Clayton of West Paducah, KY, son, Michael (and Penny) Scrogum of Macomb, 9 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, 5 step-great-grandchildren, her great-great-grandson, and 2 sisters, Violet Wickert of Astoria and Claribel Buswell of Ipava, IL.
Marjorie worked in the finance office at Camp Ellis and Camp Grant. She worked as an aide and business manager for 17 years at the Mason District Hospital. She was secretary of the Hospital Management Association for 8 years. She received the Follmar Award for outstanding service as a member of the McMahon Illini Chapter. She also worked at the Havana Dana Corporation Accounting Office until their closing. She and her husband owned and operated the Tool and Treasure Shoppe in Astoria, which they operated for 25 years in their spare time.
Marjorie was a member of the Summum Christian Church. She enjoyed going to flea markets or yard sales, collecting chickens and roosters, playing cards, and sewing. She was never afraid to tell you how it is.
Services will be held at 7 pm on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Pastor Larry Smith and Pastor Kevin Kessler will be officiating. A visitation will take place from 5 to 7 pm on Wednesday, February 24 before the service. Interment will be in the Summum Cemetery. A private burial will be held at the cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Summum Christian Church or the Macomb Church of the Nazarene.
