Howard Hammons Dye


Canton – Howard Hammons Dye, 71, passed away Sunday November 12, 2017 at Graham Hospital in Canton.
He was born on August 14, 1946 in Canton to Dr. Richard and Marguerite (Hammons) Dye.
He married Sheila Moore on October 10, 1987 in Canton.
She survives.
He is survived by his son, Christopher (Kara) Johnson and two grandsons, Colin and Kael Johnson of Canton.  Also surviving are two brothers, Dick (Mickey) Dye of Canton and Glenn (Jean) Dye of Bartlett, IL, a special cousin Jon Carl (Lou) Hammons of Amite, Louisiana, and several nieces and nephews.
Howard graduated from Canton Senior High School and Western Illinois University.
He was a Canton Firefighter and retired on July 11, 1999 with the rank of assistant chief.
He was a member of the First Christian Church in Canton, past member of the Canton Country Club and Wee Ma Tuk Country Club.
He enjoyed golfing, reading, traveling, spending time with family and friends, and walking his dog, Laddie. Howard will be lovingly remembered as a good Christian man who was kind and generous. He adored his grandsons, Colin and Kael.
A memorial service will be held at the First Christian Church in Canton on Sunday November 19, 2017 at 2:00 pm, visitation will be from 1:00 pm until the time of the service.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church and the Howard E. Strube Firefighter Memorial Fund.
