Wynette Johnson


Canton-Wynette Johnson, 90, of Canton passed away at 12:10 p.m., on Thursday, September 7, 2017, at Red Oak Memory Care.
She was born on May 21, 1927, in Sheldons Grove to Frank and Alys (Lannery) Hughes.
She married the love of her life Richard “Sam” Johnson in Canton on December 18, 1948.  He preceded her in death on January 11, 2004.
Surviving are her daughters Debra (Rich) Booth of Wee-Ma-Tuk, Jennifer (Larry) Grove of Fiatt, one grandson, Aaron Samuel (Fiancée-Jennie Smail) Grove and several nieces and nephews.
Also preceding her in death are her parents, six sisters and one brother.
After graduating from Vermont High School, Wynette worked for the Bell Telephone Company.  After her marriage she was a homemaker and later worked as the playground supervisor at Westview School in Canton.  She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Canton.
Wynette enjoyed music, playing the piano and organ, painting, gardening, cooking and especially spending time with her family and friends.
She will be missed by her family and friends who loved her dearly.
A funeral service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church in Canton on Wednesday, September 13th, 2017, at 11 am, where a visitation will be held from 9:30 am until time of service.
Burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery.
Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton is in charge of arrangements.
The family would like to thank Dr. Kenneth Krock, Compassus Hospice and the many kind and caring staff of Red Oak Estates and Memory Care.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, Compassus Hospice, or the First Presbyterian Church.
