Martha Watkins


Canton-Martha J. Watkins, 86, of Canton passed away at 7:20 p.m., on Wednesday, September 6, 2017, at Heartland Health Care Center of Canton, following a long, hard battle against Parkinson's disease.
She was born on September 16, 1930, to Fernando and Octavia (Mann) Capps. She married Russell Watkins on May 18, 1950, in Canton, IL.
Surviving are three children, Mike (Bonnie) Watkins of Wee-Ma-Tuk, IL, Janet Windom of Nolensville, TN, and Gary Watkins of Wee-Ma-Tuk, IL; two grandchildren, Jennifer (Lee) Fox of Nolensville, TN and Chris Windom of St. Louis, MO; one great grandchild, August Fox; one sister, Rett Leap of Lee's Summit, MO; two brothers, Marvin Capps and Lewis Capps of Camdenton, MO, and several nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her son, Mark Watkins, her husband Russell Watkins, 12 siblings and her parents.
Beginning in 1945, Martha was an accomplished Country music singer out of The Lake of the Ozarks, performing as a duo with her brother, Clint Capps. Her husband, Russell Watkins would later join their band as a steel guitar player. They performed with many legends such as, Hank Williams, Sr., Minnie Pearl, Little Jimmy Dickens, Jim Reeves, and many more. Martha loved spending time with her family and with her beloved grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton on Saturday September 9th, 2017, at 11 am, where a visitation will be held one hour prior at the funeral home. The Rev. Bruce Rushing will officiate.
Burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery.
