Atha Ruth Snyder

Atha Ruth Snyder, 96, of Aledo, passed away on Thursday, August 10, 2017, at 6:54 pm, at the Genesis Medical Center in Aledo. She was born on March 21, 1921 in Cass County, Illinois to Jacob “Jake” and Grace (Wallace) Smedly. They preceded her in death. She married James Raymond Snyder Sr. on December 3, 1939 in Brooklyn, Illinois. He preceded her in death on January 12, 1999. Surviving are her children, James (Judy) Snyder Jr. of Banner, Carl (Evelyn) Snyder of St. David, Ledith (Lane) Whitehall of Aledo, one sister, Ledith Padget of Clarkdale, Arizona, nine grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and seven great great grandchildren. Also preceding her in death is her brother Gene Smedly, one sister, Georgia Brown and one granddaughter, Angie Snyder. Atha's greatest pleasure in life was loving her family. Renowned for her hugs and kisses and the look of unconditional love on her face the moment she saw you. She was a loving and devoted wife to her husband, Raymond for almost 60 years, working beside him on the farm and raising their three children. She was a spiritual, gracious woman who would thank you repeatedly for everything you did for her. She is probably best known by everyone for her crocheting. The moment she fell for you she would ask you "what's your favorite color?" and in a week you would be gifted with an afghan. She loved her dogs, teaching them tricks and petting them for hours. She also enjoyed pictures of her family, reading, Tweety Bird, penguins and collecting clocks, thimbles and salt and pepper shakers. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at 1 pm, at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton with a visitation one hour prior. A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, August 13, 2017 from 3-5, at the Oaks View Country Club in Aledo. Burial will be on Tuesday following the services at the White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton. Memorials may be made to the Project Now in Aledo.
