John Hugh “Jack” Cox


Canton – Jack Cox, 89, of Canton passed away at 3:30 pm Friday, June 3, 2016 at Sunset Manor Nursing Home in Canton.  He was born on September 7, 1926 in Danville, IL to John J. and Elizabeth (Kidd) Cox.  Jack married Millicent Beam on May 13, 1957 in Smithfield.  She preceded him in death on May 8, 2016.  Also preceding him in death were his parents, brother Byard Cox, and three sisters; Eva Williams, Carol Jaquette, and Lorane Hall.  Surviving is three children; John (Linda) Cox of Wayside, N.J, William (Dee) Cox of Canton and Mary (John) Fidler of Amboy, four grandchildren; Julie (Ian) Scroggs, Daniel (Samantha) Cox, Rebecca (Eric) Glenn and Tiffany Cox and one great-grandson Wesley James Scroggs.
Jack worked at International Harvester Company for 38 ½ years as a tool and dye maker, retiring in 1982.  He was a member of First Christian Church in Canton for 50 plus years where he has served as an usher.  He was also a member of Morning Star Lodge #734 AF & AM, Olive Branch #15, Odd Fellows Past Grand Union, and Past President of AF & M (Musicians Union).  Jack was an accomplished trumpet player, playing with the famous P&O band. He enjoyed going fishing, hunting mushrooms and watching the St. Louis Cardinals.
Masonic service will be 10:00 am Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton with funeral service following.  Visitation will be one hour prior to services.  Burial will be in White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton.  Memorials can be made to Alzheimer’s Association.  To view Jack’s DVD or to leave online condolences, please visit www.oakshinesfuneralhome.com
