Simon F. Melz


Simon F. Melz, 88, of Washington, formerly of Farmington, passed away at 6:00 AM on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at Unity Point Health Proctor Hospital in Peoria. He was born on September 28, 1927 in Trivoli, IL to William and Ida (Roelf) Melz. He married Edwanna Wright on November 1, 1952 in Glasford, IL, she survives.

Also surviving are two children, Crystal (Jim) Larkins of Chesterfield, MO, and Candy (Patrick) Simon of East Peoria, IL; three grandchildren, Alisun Sparks, and James and Drew Larkins; and two great-grandchildren, Michael and Annelise Sparks.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and two sisters.

He independently worked in plumbing and heating in the Farmington area for over 50 years. He was a member of Farmington United Methodist Church and was also the trustee for the church. He was associated with Crossroads Church in Washington. He served in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War aboard the USS Harwood. Simon was a kind-hearted husband, father, grandfather, and friend to anyone he met.

Services will be at 1 PM on Saturday, December 19, 2015 at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Penn Ridge Cemetery in Rural Trivoli, IL. Visitation will be from 5-7 PM on Friday, December 18, 2015 at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to Farmington United Methodist Church or Honorflight.org.
