Vernon “Tom” Thomas

Vernon “Tom” Thomas, 78, of Canton, IL, passed away at 8:10 AM on Thursday, December 5, 2024 at OSF in Peoria, IL. He was born on June 8, 1946 in Canton, IL, to Vernon “Red” and Wilma Mae (Jackaway) Thomas. He married Linda Jean Girard on February 8, 1970 in Bryant, IL. She survives.

He is also survived by three children, William Thomas from Roseville, IL, John Thomas of Canton, IL, and Victoria and Gil Plasencia of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; four grandchildren, Nickolous Girard Thomas, Gavin Fryer, Brittany Plasencia, and Logan Plasencia; three brothers, Kelly, Sam, and Joe Thomas.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and one sister.

Tom worked and retired from Maytag for over 30 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. He was a member of the American Legion in Canton, IL and the Evangelical Free Church of Canton, IL.

He was also a Veteran of the United States Army. He served in the Vietnam War from 1968-1971.

Funeral service will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, IL. Pastor Matt Spangler will officiate. Visitation will be held the same day from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM. Burial will follow services at White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton, IL. Memorials may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
