James W. (Jim) Grimm of Elmwood, IL, passed away peacefully at home on July 13, 2021, after a hard and bravely fought battle with cancer. Jim was born on February 26, 1949, in Dodgeville, Wisconsin, the son of Joseph and Margaret Joan Grimm of Mineral Point, Wisconsin.
Jim married Joyce (Moody) Grimm on May 25, 1974, in Elmwood, IL.
Jim is survived by Joyce and their 3 sons: Joseph Grimm of Champaign IL, Justin (Heather) Grimm of Urbana, IL, and Jarrod (Jordan) Grimm of Dunlap, IL; grandchildren, Quinn Penelope and Wilson James; his mother, Margaret Joan Grimm of Mineral Point, WI; siblings, Ann (Tim) Terrill of Mineral Point, WI, Sue Howdle of Mineral Point, WI, Mary Jo (James "Buck") Rolli of Mineral Point, WI, Larry (Tiwani) Grimm of Middlesboro, KY, Marcia (Kent) Roberts of Mineral Point, WI, and Gerry (Paige) Grimm of Mineral Point, WI; and many nieces and nephews. Jim and 3 partners acquired the land and equipment from ASARCO to establish their own company Midstate Coal Company. He later worked at McBride & Shoff until retirement.
Jim enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and abroad with his wife, Joyce. Jim also enjoyed the outdoors and hiking the Appalachian Trail. Over a three-year period, he dedicated one week a year towards hiking a portion of the trail; this was a great accomplishment for Jim. He also loved ice fishing, entertaining, and spending time with his family and friends. Jim immensely treasured time with his grandchildren, Quinnie and Wilson.
