Don Louis Hopper, 83, of Canton, passed away at 2:55 PM on Wednesday, July 15, 2020 at The Loft in Canton, IL. He was born on March 6, 1937 in Galesburg, IL to Orrin Henry and Maxine Lois (Maxwell) Hopper. He married Gladys Ann Curtis on June 17, 1962 in Galva, IL. She preceded him in death on December 15, 2016.
Don was also preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Dale C. Hopper.
Surviving are two children, Janet (Tim) Crouse of Cuba, IL and Kay (David) Guth of Roanoke, IL; four grandchildren, Kyle Guth, Elizabeth Guth, Zachary Crouse, Nicholas Crouse; two brothers, Norman C. (the late Betty) Hopper of Canton and Roy D. (Rachel) Hopper of Canton; and many nieces and nephews.
Don worked as a journalist for Peoria Journal Star and WBYS. He was a life long member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Canton, IL where he was involved in all the church activities, a fifty year member of the Morning Star Lodge 734, member of the Canton American Legion Post 16, the Mohammed Shriners, the Peoria Consistory Scottish Rite, served on the Canton Bicentennial Committee, and also worked with Region Baseball Programs. Don loved reading and his animals.
Don served in the United States Navy.
Graveside service with military honors will be held at 10 AM on Saturday, July 25, 2020 at White Chapel Memory Gardens Mausoleum in Canton, IL. Pastor Micah Garnett will officiate. Cremation rites will be accorded with Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, IL. Memorials can be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church.
