Betty Lou Hopper


Canton - Betty Lou (Smith) (Hamilton) Hopper, 90, passed away June 10, 2019. Betty was born on May 15, 1929, the daughter of Willis Eldon “Spot” and Erma Louise (Crable) Smith, They preceded her in death. Betty grew up in the Astoria, IL area. She married Robert Claire Hamilton on November 26, 1950. Together they had three children: Sandy, Dave, and Mike. Betty and Bob spent most of their married life living in Canton, IL. Bob passed away January 1980.

Betty retired as an LPN for OSF St. Francis, lovingly caring for infants in the nursery. She enjoyed bowling, dancing, and traveling, taking many trips with Bob and then with Peoria Charter Coach. She played a ferocious game of BINGO! Betty adored all the fur babies that came into her life. Betty later married Norman Hopper in Canton August 1, 1998. He survives.

Also surviving are her sister Jean Mahnken, of Pembrook Pines, Florida; her children Sandy (Gary) Foutch of Arvada, CO; Dave (Debbie) Hamilton of Quincy, IL; and Mike (Katrina) Hamilton of Canton, IL. ; grandchildren Jason (Lisa) Roudebush of Ft. Collins, CO, Chris (Gigi) Foutch of Arvada, CO, Tim (Bryan Lam) Foutch of Los Angeles, CA, Tessa Foutch (Ryan Goshorn) of Denver, CO, Qwyla Foutch (Zach Cotrell) of Denver, CO, Jessica (Jared) Mayall of Canton, IL, Ben (Jamie) Hamilton of Concord, NC; great-grandchildren CJ & Brooklyn Foutch, Addison & Clark Mayall, Eleanor & Isabel Hamilton; and many nieces and nephews.

Services for Betty will be held 11 am on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at First Christian Church, 215 W. Elm St. , Canton, IL, with a visitation also at the church 9:30 – 11:00 am. Burial will be at White Chapel Memory Gardens, Canton, IL. A luncheon will follow at the church.

Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Canton has been entrusted with arrangements.
