Jerry M. Wilson, 76, of Havana passed away at his home at 9:47 p.m. on Sunday, February 25, 2024. He was born on October 12, 1947 to Donald and Madeline Wilson.Jerry is survived by his wife, Gail (Smith) Wilson of Havana; children, Jeri (Jason) Shilling and Heather (Stevan) Hofreiter, both of Havana; grandchildren, Dominique and Samuel Shilling and Madison and Claire Hofreiter, all of Havana; two step-children, Michelle (Chuck) Calhoun of Mattoon, Illinois and David West of Brookfield, Illinois; three step-grandchildren, Laney and Nolan Kelomel and Drake Calhoun; great-grandson, Jaxen Jenson; and great-granddaughters, Braelynn and Lillian Lindsey. He is also survived by his siblings, Mark (Mary) Hosford, Gene (Donna) Hosford, Guy Hosford, Chris (Lee) Eilers, Kevin (Donna) Smith, Penney (Darren) Mathias, Sandy McCari, and Randy Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jerry attended school in Havana and served in the U.S. Navy from 1964 until 1968. He worked for Westinghouse in Lester, Pennsylvania, Scott Paper in Chester, Pennsylvania, and Boeing in Essington, Pennsylvania before moving back to Illinois. He then worked for Walker Forge in Havana, Caterpillar in East Peoria and Mossville, Star Transport in Morton, and Farm and Home in Havana. He was chief driver for the Essington, Pennsylvania Volunteer Fire Department and Captain of the Havana Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the Havana VFW Post #6408 Auxiliary and Havana Boat Club.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 29, 2024 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Hurley Funeral Home in Havana. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
