Norman E. Pollitt


Canton - Norman E. Pollitt, 82, of Canton, passed away at 5:52 am on Monday, August 9, 2021 at OSF St. Francis Hospital in Peoria. He was born April 16, 1939 to Guy M. and Ruth (Carson) Pollitt in Liverpool Township and has lived his entire life in Fulton County. He attended county area schools and graduated from Lewistown High School in 1957.

He worked on a farm for a few years for his uncle. On March 23, 1961, he married Adelia Bishop. On July 6, 1962 Greg was born and on July 6, 1963 Leslie was born. Adelia preceded him in death in 1971.In the fall of 1963 he started a "Mechanical Training" class at Canton High School. In 1964 he began working for Canton Motors Sales and worked for the dealership for 37 years.
On June 14, 1974 he married Elizabeth Hamilton, making us a family of seven: Gregory Lynn (Barbara) Pollitt of Canton ; Leslie Jean (Michael) Hudoc of Geneva; Tamrah Sue (Randy) Weaver of Canton; Bambi Lennae (Timothy) Bandle of Ashland, TN; and Rhonda Denise (Kendall) Rampy of Vidor, TX. Grandchildren: Crystal (Jeromie) Hale; Sky (David) Koehler; Jennifer (Bill) Logue; and Erin (Michael) Spicer and 7 great grandchildren, Addison, Amelia, Ava, Micha, Travis, Matt and Samantha. He is survived by brothers Lloyd Pollitt and Harry Pollitt, as well a sister Joyce Dresher. Norman was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
Norm was involved with the Prison Ministry for 30 years , worked building Homes for Habitat for Humanity with President Jimmy Carter, went on mission trips, served in many capacities at First Christian Church and loved by many.
Memorial contributions may be made to "LaMoine Christian Service Camp" at Tennessee, Illinois or "Habitat for Humanity of Fulton County".
Visitation will be from 12-2, Saturday, August 14, 2021 with the funeral at 2:00 p.m. at First Christian Church. Burial will be in Maryville Cemetery in Bryant. Masks will be required inside the church. Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Canton are in charge of arrangements.
