Also surviving are his son Greg (and Victoria) Shawgo of Plant City, his daughter Teresa (and Kris) Decker of Louisville, Kentucky, seven grandchildren; Noah, Simeon, Ruth, and Susanna Shawgo and Sophia, Norah, and Mariam Decker, his father Bernard Shawgo of Astoria, Illinois, his sister Cindy (and Hollis) Shafer of Germantown Hills, Illinois and his brother Jeff (and Sonya) Shawgo of Astoria, Illinois.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Donna Shawgo, on April 29, 2021.
Doug was a graduate of Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was a school teacher and coach for over 18 years, teaching at Avon Community Schools in Avon, Illinois and Steeleville Community Schools in Steeleville, Illinois. In 1998 Doug left the teaching field and joined the family business, Shawgo Memorial Home, and was a licensed funeral director and embalmer for 15 years. Doug was working for the Heath Funeral Home in Lakeland, Florida as a Pre-Planning Specialist at the time of his passing.
Services will be held on Tuesday, August 24th at 11:00 a.m. at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, Illinois. Pastor Dan Benitez will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Astoria Cemetery. Memorials may be given in Doug's memory to the Calvary Baptist Church, Church Planting fund.
