Maurice “Pete” Black
Canton – Maurice “Pete” Black, 89, of Canton, passed away at 3:10 PM on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at Clayberg Nursing Home. He was born on March 25, 1929 in Fulton County, IL, son of Elmer and Edna (Berry) Black. He married Reta Louise (Arnett) Black on August 6, 1955 in Lewistown, IL, she preceded him in death on December 30, 2010.
Also preceding him in death are his parents, one son, John “Rod” Black, one grandchild, and one brother, Harry “Gene” Berry.
Surviving are two children, Marshall (Mary Jo) Black and Margaret Gummerson both of Canton; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one sister, Annabelle Curless of TX.
Pete was a truck driver for United Redi-Mix, where he retired in 1992. He was a member of Covenant Community Church in Canton and also Teamster Local #627.
Services will be held at 10 AM on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, IL. Rev. Kevin VanTine will officiate. Burial will follow the services at White Chapel Memory Gardens in Canton. A visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Monday, April 16, 2018 at the funeral home.
