Sharon J. Hall

Sharon J. Hall, 82, of Elmwood, passed away on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at her home.

Sharon was born August 20, 1943, in Elmwood, to Floyd and Lois (Settles) Hall.

Sharon is survived by two children, Christina Metz of Yates City, and James (Julie) Foster of Elmwood; one brother, Dave (Diana) Hall; five grandchildren, Tasha (Josh) Taylor, Alicia (Brandon) Provence, Levi Taylor, Chelsi Taylor (Les), and Lillie Foster; and eight great-grandchildren.

Sharon is preceded in death by her parents; one half-brother, Bob Hall; three brothers, Floyd “Buddy” Hall, Michael Hall, and Steve Hall; and two sisters, Eleanor Wheeler and Roberta Foster.

Sharon was a member of Faith Tabernacle Church of Canton. She loved her dogs and enjoyed garage sales and thrift shopping.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A graveside service will be held at Elmwood Township Cemetery at a later date.

Velva A. Fletcher

Velva Ann Fletcher, age 72, passed away on May 21, 2026, at Springfield Memorial Hospital with her loving family by her side.

Velva was born on October 12, 1953, in Canton, Illinois. She built a life centered around family, love, loyalty, and creating memories with the people she cared about most. Quiet and reserved by nature, Velva was never someone who needed attention to make an impact. Her love was shown in steady, thoughtful ways — through the care she gave, the traditions she kept, and the unwavering presence she provided to the people she loved.

She is survived by her loving husband, Timothy Allen Fletcher of Havana, Illinois. Together they shared 40 years of marriage, travel, and adventures, including several trips to Mexico that became some of their favorite memories. In her younger years, Velva loved riding on the back of the motorcycle with Tim and spending time out on the boat, enjoying the sunshine and water.

She was a devoted mother to Teri Witherell (TT), Michelle McClure (James), Mandi Hayden, and Troy Fletcher (Megan) and loved her family deeply. She was also a proud grandmother to Dalton Bryant, Macy Witherell, Reagan Weller (Jason), Brock and Tanner Hayden, Trace, Rilee, and Eli Fletcher, and Chase Hughes. She was also blessed with great-granddaughters Madison (“Maddie”) Bryant and Hattie Weller.

She is survived by her mother, Faith Foster, age 99; her brother, Greg Foster (Wendy); and many family members and friends who loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her father, Beverly “BD” Foster, her brother Dennis Foster, her mother-in-law Esther Fletcher, and her granddaughter Bailie Bryant.

Velva loved annual daughters’ trips, was an avid reader who always had a book on her Kindle, and was an animal lover who adored her dogs Smoky and Petey and supported the ASPCA. She faithfully visited her mother every week and often visited family graves to lovingly change flowers with the seasons.

Services will be held on Friday, May 29, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Hopewell Church in Snicarte for the family.

Velva will be remembered for her love, loyalty, strength, and the deep care she gave to those around her.

Michael Edward Fuller

Michael Edward Fuller, 62, of Smithfield, passed away at 4:15 AM on Monday, May 25, 2026 at The Elms in Macomb, IL. He was born on June 5, 1963 in Arcadia, CA, to Gerald “Butch” Fuller and Mary (Sass) Blankenship.

He is survived by his parents, step-mom, Gretchen Fuller; two sisters, Tammy (Ed) Heap and Samantha (Jared) Gilliam; one brother-in-law, Dan Hughes; five nephews, Jimmy Davies, Jonathon Heitzman, Ryan Hughes, Cody Gilliam, and Collin Gilliam; and two step nephews, Hunter and Wyatt Heap.

He is preceded in death by one sister, Cathy Hughes.

Michael liked to fish and watch The Price is Right.

Michael A. Roth,

Michael Andrew Roth, 67, of Havana, passed away on Monday, May 25, 2026 at 8:50 a.m. at Arcadia Care in Havana. He was born on July 26, 1958 in Peoria, Illinois to Melvin John and Lucille Gloria (Wickert) Roth.

Michael is survived by his life partner, Billie Lyons of Havana; her son, Quincey French; siblings, Carol Schoenfeld of Bowling Green, Kentucky, Robert Roth of Peoria Heights, Illinois, and Kathy Roth of Long Beach, California; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces, and great-great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gerald Haley and James Haley; sister, Jean Maddox; and two fur babies, Kaiyuh and Anya.
Michael worked as a mechanic supervisor for many years until his retirement in 2015. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening in his spare time. He also liked watching the Chicago Bears and St. Louis Cardinals games.
Cremation rites have been accorded and no services are planned at this time.

Joel E Moore

Joel E Moore 53, of Manito, entered the gates of heaven on Sunday, May 24th. He is the first born son of John & Julie (Keith) Moore. He married his beautiful bride, Stacey, who stayed by his side and provided exceptional care for him. They were married on June 4, 2010, in St. Louis, Missouri. Two amazing kiddos, Tyler (Amber) Moore and Reagan Osborn, left to carry on how they were raised. He was the best role model to his siblings: Jenny (Dan) Kraft, Josh (Kayla) Moore, in law siblings: Heather (Justin) DeTrempe, Jesse DeTrempe. He was a terrific Uncle Uncle Uncle to his 7 nieces (Ashlee, Katie, Remi, Maddy, Jodan, Zaybree, Sadie) and 1 nephew (Dexter). His 3 granddogs: Bucky, Dreamer, and Dean. He showed extreme love & compassion while helping others, and never met a stranger! He chose to specialize in psychiatric nursing, working at the VA and Carle Health. He loved the St. Louis Cardinals and The Peanuts Gang. He enjoyed playing softball on different teams and bowling with Tyler. He enjoyed helping with The Penguin Project with Reagan. He fought his Oral Cancer with courage, braveness, and a positive attitude, until his body could take no more. Donald G. Woodcock

Donald G. Woodcock, 92, of Trivoli, passed away at 7:06 PM on Friday, May 22, 2026 in Peoria, IL. He was born on May 27, 1933 in Trivoli, IL, to Lyle and Dorothy (Ford) Woodcock. He shared a marriage for 60 years with Judy Horr. She survives.

He is also survived by seven children, Mike, Pat, Janice, Jerry, Glen, Sue, and Patty; six grandchildren, Ashley, Nick, Megan, Beau, Hunter, and Jack; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bob; and two sisters, Helen and Mary.

Donald worked and retired from Caterpillar as an assisted buyer. He volunteered as Chief for the Logan-Trivoli Fire Department for many years. He also enjoyed woodworking.

Graveside service will be held at 11:45 AM on Friday, May 29, 2026 at Trivoli Cemetery in Trivoli, IL. Visitation will be held the same day from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Farmington, IL. Pastor Austin Miller will officiate. Virginia Poscis

Virginia L. Poscis, 84, of Cuba passed away on Tuesday May 19, 2026 at Graham Hospital in Canton.

Virginia Louise Poscis (Cozart) was born February 17, 1942 in Canton. She was the daughter of Park and Imogene (Easley) Cozart. She married Walter L. Poscis on July 10, 1960 in Cuba. He died March 30, 2015. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a son-in-law, Everett Murphy, her sister, Janice (Clayton) Myers, and great granddaughter, Hadleigh.

She is survived by her two daughters, Lori (late Everett) Murphy, and Pam Clouse. Sister -in-law, Sandra (late Willis) Girard. Grandchildren, Brandon (Christy) Murphy, Tabitha (Jeremy) Brown, Melissa (Clayton) Stufflebeam, Shaun Murphy, Chris (fiancée Kaylee) Clouse, and Whitney Murphy. Great grandchildren, Carter, Kendal, Gwen, Oliver, Walter, and Lukas.

Virginia was a Cuba High School graduate. She worked at Hagley’s Restaurant in Canton, and then retired from the dietary department at Clayberg Fulton County Nursing Center. Mom loved her two daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. One of her favorite things to do was go with her cousin Deb and meet aunt Poney and aunt Ida to play slots on the boat in East Peoria. Virginia made the best flaky pie crust and thin noodles. She loved everyone getting together and sharing good times. Virginia was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America, she was a big part of the former PTA food stand at the Soldiers and Sailors Reunion.

Cremation will be accorded. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM Sunday June 7th at Howard Cemetery rural Smithfield. A meal will follow at The Elks, 61 West Elm St. Canton. Patricia A. Breiland

Patricia A. Breiland, 79, of Rushville, IL, passed away at 12:11 am on Saturday, May 23, 2026 at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville. She was born on February 11, 1947 in Browning, IL, the daughter of Lloyd and Eva (Hefner) Mathis.

She is survived by her two children; Teri Davis of Rushville and Chris (and Tina DeMoss) Jones of Astoria, IL, four grandchildren; Ashley (and Josh Kendrick) Davis of Astoria, Kylor (and Mikiah) Davis of Waverly, MO, Kooper Jones of Astoria and Jase Jones of Astoria, and three great-grandchildren; Kash, Luna and Hallie.

She is preceded in death by her parents, son-in-law; Dan Davis, great-grandson; Knox, five brothers; Bob, Bill, Jim, Jake and Fred Mathis, and two sisters; Wilma Lamb and Norma Eddington.

Patricia was a Registered Respiratory Therapist.

She was a member of the Browning Christian Church. She also attended the Astoria Christian Church. Patricia enjoyed cooking and watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Scott Michael Jones

Scott M. Jones, 61, of La Grange, MO, passed away at 8:30 am on Friday, May 22, 2026 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL. He was born on February 23, 1965 in Macomb, IL, the son of Loyd “Butch” and Cindy (Haber) Jones.

He survived by one son Brandon Michael Jones of Springfield, IL and his mother; Cindy (and Jon) Mummert of Browning, IL.

He is preceded in death by his father; Loyd “Butch” Jones.

Scott was a 1983 graduate of Rushville High School. He would later become a carpenter and general contractor. He loved riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle.

Scott earned an Associates Degree from Spoon River College.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Services will be held at a later date.

Mark Allen Cheatum

Mark Allen Cheatum of Sikeston Missouri, passed peacefully on Saturday May 16th, 2026 at St Francis Hospital in Cape Girardeau, MO.

Mark played many roles during his lifetime. He was an educator, principal, coach, son, brother, husband and father. He started his education profession in Farmington Illinois where he taught middle school math during his time there. He coached girls’ basketball at the junior high and high school levels, and boy’s baseball. He later took a position as the assistant dean of students in Lewistown, Illinois. While there he pursued his Master’s degree in Education Administration. Once that was completed, he furthered his professional journey in Griggsville/Perry school District, as a principal. While there he took pride in coaching the boy’s baseball team. He retired in 2015.

Mark was a sports fanatic. He was a scout for the Cincinnati Reds 1982 and 1983. He was a diehard St. Louis Cardinals fan, Arizona Cardinals fan, and avid University of Illinois basketball fan. His favorite games to watch though were the ones that his kids and grandkids played. When not watching or coaching sports, Mark took pride in his yard. He always made sure his yard was mowed, trimmed, and his flowers watered. Every spring he made sure all his flower beds had fresh mulch. Just this past summer, Mark and his son added to his patio, so when friends and family came over, they had a beautiful place to sit and visit. Mark was known for his witty sarcasm, “dad” jokes, family weatherman, and friendly personality.

Mark married his beloved wife, Kathy Reid, on December 30, 2002. Between the two of them they had 4 children, Hollie, Heath, Jessica, and Justine. They started their life together on the family farm in Cuba, Illinois. They moved off the farm to Pittsfield, Illinois. Mark and Kathy moved back the town of Cuba after his retirement. They were there until 2022, and then moved to Sikeston, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his father, William “Spike” Cheatum and his mother Barbara “Eileen” Cheatum both of Salem, Illinois, his sister De Ann Ross, brother-in-law George Ross both of Oklahoma, and his mother-in-law Patricia Reid, of Cuba, Illinois.

He leaves behind, his wife Kathy of Sikeston, MO, his brother Bill Cheatum (Rena) of Watseka, Il, his brother Tracy Cheatum of Salem, Il, sister-in-law Laura Gibboney (Chris) of Smithfield, Il, brother-in-law Chuck Reid of Cuba, Il, his daughter Hollie Cheatum (Andy Haynes) of Covington, GA, his son Heath Cheatum (Kylee Ewalt) of Canton, Il, his daughter Jessica Trone (Aaron Underwood) of Mackinaw, Il, and his daughter Justine Butler (Ben Butler) of Lewistown, Il. He had 14 grandchildren, Alyse, Nathan, Cameron, Shawn Jr., Kyzer, Zander, Stella, Pierce, Jaydyn, Waylon, Lauren, Clayton, Kinsley, and Nova.

Visitation will be held at Temple Baptist Church of Canton Illinois on May 26, 2026 from 4pm-6pm. Services following directly after at 6pm.

Memorials and donations will go to the Temple Baptist Church of Canton or the donor’s choice.
