Elbert was a US Army veteran, serving from 1948 to 1954 with a rank of Corporal.

He was self-employed as a land improvement contractor for many years in and around Fulton County. Locals still enjoy fishing in the ponds he built.

Elbert was a past president of Illinois Land Improvement Contractors Association and a member of the National LICA. He believed one should be active and participate in your community. He was a volunteer fire fighter for many years for the Table Grove Fire Dept. and maintained their firehouse furnace. He served on the Table Grove Town Board and assisted the road commissioner in keeping the village roads clear of snow and prepping the roads for tar and gravel re-surfacing. Elbert also built the Table Grove Sewage Treatment area west of town. He was a member of the Table Grove American Legion.

In his “spare” time, Mac loved to fish and to help his kids with whatever remodeling project they had going or having a bite out with his “baby doll”.
