Ernest Claire “Swig” Horton

Ernest Claire “Swig” Horton, 93, of Avon, passed away March 11, 2024 at his residence. He was born on February 23, 1931 in Macomb to Ernest and Elfie (Gill) Horton. He first married Nancy Hermetet and later married Martha Hamilton on January 28, 1964. She survives and they recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Also surviving are two children: Kim Horton of Shiloh, IL and David (Kathy) Horton of Avon, 2 grandchildren; Trinity Horton and Taylor Horton, three step grandchildren; Cody Chandler, Cody Hendrickson and Bree Hendrickson and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his beloved cat Kitty Horton. Claire was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers; Meredith “Zeke” Horton, Harold Horton and Fred Horton and two sisters; Helen Wigle and Margaret Sims.

Claire was farmer for over 75 years, which he loved dearly especially his cows. He was a member of University Baptist Church in Macomb. He enjoyed golfing and spending his winters in Florida. Most of all he loved his grandchildren.

Cremation rites have been accorded by Oaks-Hines Funeral Home and Crematory in Canton.

Services will be 11 am Saturday, March 16, 2024 at University Baptist Church at 315 North Sherman in Macomb, where visitation will be one hour prior to services. The Rev.
