Albert J. Dorich, 99, of Peoria, formerly of Elmwood, passed away at 7:58 a.m., on Wednesday, March 20, 2024, at the Bickford House in Peoria. He was born March 27, 1924, in Dunfermline, IL, to John and Johanna (Golic) Dorich. He married Evelyn Gregory on January 3, 1948, in Canton. She preceded him in death on May 15, 2023.
Albert is survived by four children, Linda Hamm (Allan Christy) of Astoria, David Dorich of Elmwood, Denise (Dale) Kemper of Cincinnati, OH, and Daryl (Valerie) Dorich of East Peoria; ten grandchildren; and sixteen great-grandchildren and one-on-the way.
Albert is also preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, Pauline Spargo and Mary Miller Scott.
Albert served in the Navy for three years during World War II. He was stationed in the Pacific Theatre on board an LCT and the U.S.S. Mindoro. He was a Coal Miner for 40 years from which he retired from in 1985. He was a lifetime member of the Elmwood United Methodist Church. Albert enjoyed woodworking, gardening, traveling, and was a life-long Cub and Bears fan.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Elmwood. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will immediately follow the service at Elmwood Township Cemetery. Food and fellowship will follow at the Elmwood United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to B.Y.E. Ambulance.
