Anita C. Peters, 86, of Lewistown, formerly of Oakford, passed away at Renaissance Care Center, in Canton, at 12:15 a.m., on Saturday, May 27, 2023. She was born January 7, 1937, in Oakford, Illinois, to Emerson and Dessie L. (Blakeley Anderson) Moss. She married Robert Peters on May 29, 1955, at the Oakford Methodist Church. He survives.
Mrs. Peters is survived by her husband, Robert, of Lewistown; seven children: Kathryn (Jason) Baker, of Lewistown, Robert Dean (Debbie) Peters, of Petersburg, Angela Neteler, of Havana, Carol Jean Sisson, of Kilbourne, Evelyn (Bill) West, of Lewistown, Nancy Fields, of Arlington, Texas, and Melissa (Brian) Thompson, of Lewistown; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, one step-great-great-grandson; as well as Roy Lee Peters, a nephew, whom she raised. Also surviving are three siblings: Ronald E. Moss, of Greenview, Richard D. Moss, of Petersburg and Karen Sue Short, of Oakford. She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Jane Ann Moss and one grandson, Shane Brandon Neteler.
Mrs. Peters was a member of Lewistown United Methodist Church, where she had been a member of the United Methodist Women’s Group and had served as a District Officer. She was a 4-H Leader and Girl Scout Leader. She was a member of the Lewistown Legion Auxiliary and Saddle Club. She worked for Pillsbury, in Springfield, Lounsberry Gardens, as a bookkeeper for Severns Insurance and as a nurses aide at Prairie View Care Center. She had also worked for Wareco in Jacksonville.
Visitation will be held at Hurley Funeral Home, in Havana, on Wednesday, May 31, 2023, from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Lewistown United Methodist Church at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, June 1, 2023. Burial will follow the services at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown. Rev. Shane Smith will officiate.
