Farmington – Bernita Belle Murphy, 96, of Farmington, passed away at 7:24 PM on Thursday, April 13, 2017 at Courtyard Estates in Farmington. She was born on May 13, 1920 in Canton to Omer and Cassie (Thomas) Reffett. She married Alfred Charles “Pete” Murphy on August 31, 1941 in Canton, he preceded her in death on February 28, 2010.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.
Surviving are four children, Timothy C. (Mary) Murphy of Tucson, AZ, and their children, Conor and Dorene, Jeffry O. (Mary) Murphy of Lexington, KY, Mickie H. (Tim) Ulm of Farmington, IL, and their children, Lisa, Tyler, and Tate, and Peggy J. (Greg) Polakow of Fairfield, IA, and their children, Chanda, Brea, and Kelsey; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one sister, Charlotte E. Reinhart of MI.
Bernita worked as a nurse at Graham Hospital for 17 years, where she retired in 1989. She is a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Farmington, and a Chartered member of the Farmington Nurses Club.
Services will be held at 2 PM on Monday, April 17, 2017 at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Homes in Farmington, where a visitation will be held from 1-2 PM. Rev. Dr. Linda Philabaun will officiate. Burial will follow the services at Oakridge Cemetery in Farmington, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Graham Hospital School of Nursing.
