Frances “Francie” Marie (Burton) Cox

Frances “Francie” Marie (Burton) Cox passed away peacefully at the age of 85, surrounded by her family, on Thursday, April 9, 2020 at Clayberg Nursing Home in Cuba.  She now lives in her heavenly home and will forever be with her Lord and Saviour.

Frances leaves her husband Marcus; daughters Cindy Wright and husband Bob, and Lori Eddy and husband Jim; grandchildren Jennifer Barrick, Matt (Becky) Essex, Mike (Erin) Eddy, Amanda (Tyler) Rector, Jessica (Chester) Ruff, and Mark (Alyssa) Eddy; great-grandchildren Hannah, Emma, Michael, Grady, Logan, Matthew, Ryan, Claire, Nathanael, Kaley, Piper and Kate.  Frances was proceeded in death by her son Randy, her parents, and brother Don Burton.

Frances was born October 25, 1934, the daughter of Alva and Bertha (Blair) Burton.  She grew up on a farm west of Cuba and attended country school through 8th grade.  She graduated from Cuba High School in 1951 and worked as a bookkeeper at Nimmo’s Ford Garage in Cuba until 1958.  Frances was introduced to Marcus Cox, February 1957, by his brother George, at a square dance in Cuba.  It was love at first sight and they have been dancing ever since.  They were married on August 10, 1957 at the Cuba Christian Church.  Frances was a homemaker, but her greatest joy was being a mom to her daughters.  She later worked part-time at Spoon River Library.  Her love of reading was passed on to many children, including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Frances will most be remembered by how she shared her faith in Christ with others and how she truly lived out that faith.  She was a faithful prayer warrior, studied God’s Word, attended church regularly, helped others by sending cards and providing meals to those who were sick or suffering loss, transported children to Vacation Bible School, and taught Sunday School for many years.  She was a member of the Smithfield Church of the Nazarene and loved her church family.

Frances will also be remembered by how much she loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.  She treasured her family being gathered in her home, especially on Christmas Eve.  Many special Christmas Eves were spent with her parents, brother and his family, and then in later years with just her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Frances also deeply loved her precious Burton and Cox families.

Frances loved people and that was evident by all the dear friends she came to love throughout the years.  Her friends are too numerous to list, but if you knew Frances, you were her friend.

Frances loved to read, crochet, cook and bake.  Many folks enjoyed her delicious goodies.   Frances also cherished hearing her daughters play the piano.  She loved hymns and Christmas carols being sung by her family gathered at the piano.

A private graveside service will be held at Cuba Cemetery, Reverend Dean Potts officiating.  A public celebration of her life will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Smithfield Church of the Nazarene for youth church camp scholarships, Spoon River Library, and Clayberg Nursing Home Activity Fund. To send online condolences visit henrylange.com.

The family would like to thank Cuba Clayberg Nursing Home staff, Red Oak Estates Memory Care staff, Grant Keime nurses and staff, and in-home caregivers for their dedication to Frances’ care.  The family also thanks those who visited and prayed for her during difficult times and Henry-Lange Memorial Home for their special accomodations.
