He was born in Canton on January 26, 1934, to Francis David and Imogene (Welch) Vandermeer. They preceded him in death as well as one sister, Meryde Powell, and one grandson, William “Billy” Vandermeer
He married Phyllis (McClure) Vandermeer on June 12, 1955. She preceded him in death on October 12, 2018.
David is survived by three children, Davinda “Holly” (Kevin) Brown of Normal Illinois, David Weldon (the late Linda) Vandermeer Sr. of Fairview Illinois, and Jordan Daniel (Kathi) Vandermeer of Canton Illinois, four grandchildren, David W. (Vanessa) Jr., Rebekah (Brandon), Aaron (Amy), and Amanda, and five great grandchildren.
David worked at International Harvester for 33 years retiring in 1988. He later worked at Nelson’s Manufacturing, and as a Canton Park District Ranger. He is a 55-year member of the Fin and Feather Club in Fairview. He was past president and Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop #116, and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Canton. David was a veteran of the Air National Guard he served for 6 years.
A visitation will be held at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 29, 2024. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 30, 2024.
Burial will immediately follow the funeral at Greenwood Cemetery in Canton.
