Florence v. Burgett

Florence V. Burgett, 91, of Havana passed away on Sunday, November 10, 2024 at Mason District Hospital in Havana. She was born on November 11, 1932 in Fulton County, Illinois to Harry and Gladys (Mason) Howell. She married Richard Burgett on April 1, 1949 and he preceded her in death on December 22, 1978.

Florence is survived by her children, Roxanne (Lyndel) Lingenfelter of Poplar Bluff, Missouri, Debbie (Ed) Clark of Bluffs, Illinois, Richard “Rick” Burgett of Havana, and Steve (Anita) Burgett of Havana; grandchildren, Bradley Koke, James Lingenfelter, Robert Lingenfelter, Richard Clark, Chris Clark, and Jennifer Flanigan; several great-grandchildren; and sister, Betty Gilmore of Bartonville. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; daughter, Barbara (Brad) Koke; and granddaughter, Tracey Puls.
Florence worked as a cook at Havana Jr. High and Mason District Hospital for many years. She enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with her family.
Cremation rites have been accorded and a private graveside service will be held at a later date.

Vivian Joann Harr

Canton- Vivian Joann Harr, 88, of Canton, passed away at 4:38 AM on Sunday, November 10, 2024 at Renaissance Care Center in Canton. She was born on May 29, 1936 in Canton, a daughter of Lawrence and Helen (Johnson) Ball. She married Vernice Harr on November 27, 1954 at Checkrow Church. He preceded her in death on April 19, 2004.


Also preceding her in death were her parents, daughter, Cindy Turk; brothers, Charles, Donald, Jerry, Kenny, and Lyle Ball; sister, Lillian Putman.


Surviving are her children, Don (Teresa) Harr, and Jeannie (John) Beadles, all of Canton; sisters, Charolette Hill of East Peoria, Eleanor Hahn of Abingdon; seven grandchildren, Valarie (Ryan) Hopps of Bath, Aaron (Bob) Doubet of Chicago, Jeremy (Heather) Harr of Peoria, Stephanie (Billy) Nicks of Astoria, Matthew (Heidi) Watson of Tennessee, Quinton Turk of North Carolina, Jillian (Jacob) Jester of Canton; Twelve great-grandchildren, Ashley Doubet of Havana, Gage (Alexis) Hopps of Bath, Joshua (Brea) Harr of Pekin, Mollie Harr of DeKalb, Blake Sumner of Peoria, Gabriel Nicks of Astoria, Rosalynn Nicks of Astoria, Alexander Ginther of Astoria, Lydia Jester of Canton, Chloie Goodman of Farmington, Kadie Nolte of Tennessee, Tyler Luopa of Tennessee, and three great-great-grandchildren, Gracen and Harmony Hallmark, both of Havana, and Arlo Hopps of Bath.


Vivian worked and retired from Graham Hospital in Canton, as a Registered Nurse. Her happiest days were the births of the grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She enjoyed making dolls, collecting miniature shoes, and crafting.


A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory, where a visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of the services. Rev. Kevin VanTine will officiate. Burial will follow the services, and take place in Zion Cemetery in Bybee, Illinois. Memorials can be made to Shriner’s Hospital or to St. Jude Children’s Hospital. Jerry W. Simmons

Jerry W. Simmons, 82, of Brimfield, a longtime amateur radio operator with the call sign “W1JWS”, a.k.a “WB9UDB”, is now a Silent Key. He passed away at 5:09 p.m., on Friday, November 8, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family.


Jerry was born February 9, 1942, in Peoria, IL, to Charlie and Annabelle (Stewart) Simmons. He married Kathleen “Katy” Waldman on October 19, 1985, in Peoria. She survives.


Jerry is also survived by six children, Susette (Ramie) Poe of Texas, Lynn (Jim) Lillie of Chatham, IL, Jerry (Renee) Simmons, Jr., of Arizona, Glenda (Christopher) Lowery of East Peoria, IL, Elizabeth Simmons of Eureka, and Amanda Simmons of Peoria; eleven grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren.


Jerry is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Eugene Simmons, Charles Simmons, and Almas “Bud” Simmons; and one sister, Margie Roloff.


Cremation rites have been accorded. There will be no services at this time.

Kenneth L. "Ken" Schneider

Kenneth L. “Ken” Schneider, 70, of Canton, passed away, Sunday, November 10, 2024, at OSF Richard L Ownes Hospice Home in Peoria.

He was born in Peoria, to Ralph and Norma (Sherman) Schneider. He is preceded in death by his father, Ralph.

Ken is survived by his mother, Norma, two children, Shadrin (Susan) Schneider, and Ryan (Mike) Smith, four step children, Kevin (Corin) Kruzan, Jennifer Kruzan, Richard Kruzan, and Brent Kruzan, one brother, Steve (Jackie) Schneider, six grandchildren, Malorie (Aaron), Andrew, Jordan, Asa, Lucy, and Emery, three great grandchildren, Francisco, Elliot, and Paris, and two nephews, Eric and Damian.

Ken worked at Sherex in Mapleton, retiring in 2003. Ken was hard working faithful Christian man. He graduated from Richwoods High School where he played football, basketball, and baseball. He was a loyal Chicago Bears and St. Louis Cardinals fan. For his whole life Ken supported the Peoria South Side Mission. Most of all he was always proud of his children and grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at 12:00 p.m., visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton. Burial will immediately follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Canton.

Bruce Hebb

Bruce Hebb, 63, of Canton, passed away on Friday, November 8, 2024 at OSF St Francis in Peoria.

He was born on July 6, 1961 in Canton to William and Dixie (Williams) Hebb.

He married Sally Hutton on October 11, 1986 in Canton. She survives.

Also surviving is his father of Canton, one son, Zachary (Heather Runyon) Hebb of Canton and three sisters, Billie Barra of Canton, Becky Bruketta of Norris and Brenda Kinsel of Canton.

He worked as a welder and later as a Medical Lab Technician. Lastly, he worked for the American Red Cross as a blood technician. He was an active member of Canton Assembly of God Church where he served as a Deacon and head usher. He was involved in the general upkeep of the facilities and grounds. Bruce was an avid student of the word of God. He was a master gardener and enjoyed canning pickles and spaghetti sauce. In his younger years he was a lightweight state boxing champion.

Cremation rites have been accorded and a memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 14, 2024 at 11am at Canton Assembly of God Church in Canton. There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be made to the Canton Assembly of God Church or the Fulton County Humane Society.

Catherine Parkinson

Catherine Parkinson, 76, of Canton, passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at Graham Hospital in Canton.

She was born on December 25, 1947 in Canton to Clifford and Virgene (Brush) Cardot.

Surviving is one son Robert Parkinson Jr of Canton, one grandson, Zachary (Alicia) Parkinson of Morton, four sisters, Annetta Heaton, Camille Plunk, Mary Wilkinson, Carol Wages, two great grandchildren, Hudson and Chloe and her special friend Ted Bell.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Marty Cardot.

Catherine worked at Butternut Bread Bakery and was a bus driver for the Canton School District. She also was a caregiver at St Mary’s Catholic Church for Father Reynolds and lastly worked for Camille’s in Canton. She was a past member of the Elks Lodge #626 and enjoyed watching old westerns. Most of all she was a loving grandmother and enjoyed seeing her grandkids events and spending time with them.

A private graveside will be held at Shields Chapel Cemetery.

Larry Utech

Lawrence “Larry” Utech, 92, of Canton, passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at Sunset Manor in Canton.

He was born on June 19, 1932 in San Jose, Il to Albert and Bertha (Vancil) Utech.

He married Joyce (Sullivan) McCloskey on June 23, 1978. She survives.

Also surviving are his children, Allen (Kathy) Utech of Marquette Heights, Raelene (Dave) Widger of Canton, Wendy Folberth of Bryant, Glen McCloskey of Vandalia, Holly (Jack) Shaw of St Peters, MO, eighteen grandchildren and twenty-five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son Kevin, two daughters, Tammy Utech, Karole Finley and one brother, Donald.

Larry worked for Caterpillar Tractor in Peoria for 32 ½ years, retiring in 1985. He enjoyed woodworking, crafts and animals. Together with his wife, he traveled to craft shows for over 20 years. He was very knowledgeable about horticulture.

Cremation rites have been accorded and a funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at noon at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton with a visitation held one hour prior at the funeral home. Burial of his ashes will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Canton.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or American Heart Association.

Flora M. Havens

 

Flora M. Havens, 98, of Canton, passed away at 5:05 AM on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at Graham Hospital in Canton, IL. She was born on May 26, 1926 in Swan Creek, IL, to Carl and Agnes (Munson) Norville. She married Billy Havens on December 18, 1965 in Industry, IL. He preceded her in death on August 16, 2022.


She is also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Densel Norville, Bill Norville, and John Norville; and four sisters, Doris Copeland, Norma Lamb, Jean Golding, and Dorothy Hinderliter.


She is survived by one son, Jim (Kay) Henderson, two grandchildren, James Henderson Jr. and Kim (Tim) Garber, four great-grandchildren, Bella Henderson, Calie Welker, Michael Garber, and Timothy Garber; four great-great grandchildren, special niece, Alicia “Rusti” (Andy) Napier; three nephews, Eric, Evan, and Ethan Pierce; sister-in-law, Linda Havens; and several nieces and nephews.


Flora was a cook at Suburban Wee-Ma-Tuk for many years. She enjoyed yard work and cooking.

Ned D. Graham

Ned D. Graham of Cuba, IL, passed away peacefully at the age of 71.


He was born in Canton, IL on May 23, 1953 to Richard and Mary (Stockham) Graham.


He is survived by two children, Scott (Jaclyn Gragnani) Graham of Barrington, IL and Kadi (Brandon) Bliss of Nashville, TN; three brothers, Roger (Linda) Graham of Ipava, IL, Monte (Janet) Graham of Havana, IL, and Rick (Shannon Voyles) Graham of Lewistown, IL; his loving partner Jeanne Dams and her children, Elizabeth (Scott Barker) Dams, Cassie (Mike) Myers, and Jason Dams, and all his grandkids, Harper, Hudson, Anthony, Mia, Kennedy, Gavin, Jaylee, Jenna, Lincoln, Julia, Blain, Jake, and Braden.


He is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Gary (Ruth) Graham, and Tim (Donna) Graham.


Ned graduated Western Illinois University with his Bachelor of Science and worked as a math teacher and baseball coach for 43 years in Cuba school district, Lewistown school district, VIT school district, Steelville, MO school district, and the Spoon River Academy. During this time, he touched the lives of many students and baseball players. He was the head coach of the Lewistown 1993 State Champion team, 1994 runner up team, 1990 third place team, 1991 Elite Eight team, and 1998 Elite Eight team. He was a member of the IL High School Baseball Coaches Association and was inducted in the IL High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.


In his free time, Ned enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, playing pickleball, hide and seek, teaching them math, and attending sporting events.


He was an avid golfer, spending most of his time at the Wee-Ma-Tuk Country Club where he got two holes in one.

Traveling was also a joy for Ned. He liked to spend winters in Gulfport, MS with Jeanne, Monte, Janet, Marilyn, and Randy, where they would golf together. He also enjoyed family kayak and guys golfing annual trips.


Last, Ned kept in touch with his class of 1971 and enjoyed their annual get togethers.


Ned was known and loved by many, and will be deeply missed.


Visitation will be held from 10 AM – Noon on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, IL. Service will be held at Noon the same day. Joey “Joe Joe” McLaughlin will officiate. Burial will follow service at Summum Cemetery in Summum, IL, officiated by Travis Koster. Larry Wayne Snowden

Larry Wayne Snowden, 85, of Canton, IL, passed away at 5:30 PM on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria, IL. He was born on March 2, 1939 in Vermont, IL to Otis Gordon and Nellie Rachel (Miller) Snowden. He married Marjorie Chockley on July 12, 1959 in Industry, IL. She survives.


He is also survived by two children, Douglas Wayne Snowden of Canton, IL and Sheila Ann (Bradley) Bell of Glasford, IL; nine grandchildren, Alexandra Cenzer, Rachel (Chris) Priest, Coryn (Kyle Dasovic) Cenzer, Joshua (Abby Greskoviak) Cenzer, Jacob Snowden, Ethan Vance, Jasmine Marten, Zach (Tiffany) Bell, and Amanda (Jason Caldwell) Bell; three great-grandchildren, Madelyn Caldwell, Maliyah Caldwell, and Abigail Priest; and several nieces and nephews.


He is preceded in death by his parents; eight brothers, Edmund, Eldon, Dave, Dale, Dwight, Devere, Wendell, and Don Snowden; and two great-grandchildren, Emberlyn and Paxon Priest. 


Larry worked for Thermogas and Ferrell Gas where he retired after 41 years of work. He was a member of Farmington Moose for 50 years. He volunteered for Graham Hospital for 13 years. He was also on the board of appeals for the City of Farmington. He loved his family. He enjoyed working in the yard, golfing, outdoors, fishing, and airshows.


A private memorial service will be held at the Lord’s Table Church of God in Bartonville, IL. A Celebration of Life will be held from 1 PM – 3 PM on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at the Farmington Moose in Farmington, IL. Eldon L. Bucy

Eldon Lee Bucy, age 97 of Macomb, Illinois, formerly of Vermont, Illinois, passed away at 5:06 pm Friday, November 8, 2024 at Wesley Village in Macomb, Illinois. He was born on October 30, 1927 in Vermont, a son of John William and Erma (Horner) Bucy. On November 18, 1950, Eldon married Bertha A. Pepmeyer at Camp Stewart, Georgia. Bertha preceded Eldon in death on May 27, 2023.


He was an Army veteran, serving in occupied Japan and also for the Illinois National Guard.

Eldon was a farmer. He also worked at Pioneer Seeds and at the Physical Plant at Western Illinois University. He was a member of the Vermont American Legion, where he served as Past Commander, a member of the Illinois Farm Bureau and the Vermont United Methodist Church.

He is survived by two sons; Jim (Judy Burnette) Bucy of Springfield, Illinois and Mike (Barb) Bucy of South Jacksonville, Illinois, one daughter Diana (and the late Jim) Martin of Matthews, North Carolina, six grandchildren; Katie (Jeff) Stewart, Allie (Drew) Vining, Mary (Dan) Clarin, Matt (Nicole) Martin, Heather (Conor) Griffin and Craig (Kary) Bucy, fourteen great-grandchildren; Brianna, Fiona, Leah, Louisa, Oliver, Anderson, Lucy, Henry, Charlie, Jackson, Madeline, Elodie, Braden and Ruby, sister Betty Ricketts of Chandler, Arizona and sister-in-law Carol Pace of Vermont, Illinois.

Along with his wife, Eldon was also preceded in death by his grandson Benjamin (surviving wife Kate) Martin, siblings Mary June McCormick, Otis Bucy, Wayne Bucy, Ansel Bucy, Henry Bucy, Clair Bucy, John Bucy and George Bucy and half-siblings Dorothy Hughes, Vera Brillhart, Lela Mendenhall, Boyd Bucy, Ernest Bucy and Charles Bucy.

Services for Eldon will be held on Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria, Illinois. Reverend Robert Green will officiate. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Vermont Cemetery with full military rites provided by the Vermont American Legion. Memorials in memory of Eldon may be made to Wesley Village in Macomb, Illinois or the Vermont American Legion. Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria has been entrusted with arrangements.
