Maurice Walker

Maurice “Maury” Walker, 89 of Topeka passed away Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at Pekin Hospital. He was born on February 13, 1935 in Greene County to Leonard and Bessie (Ethell) Walker. On August 14, 1955 he married Shirley Schimmelpfenning who preceded him in death in 2009.

Maury is survived by 4 children: Cathy Walker of Manito, Joy Hindes of Texas, Scott Walker of Manito and Patti (Scott) Mitzelfelt of Manito, 5 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren and 9 siblings: Claude Walker, Mary Stephens, Martha DeGroot, Marilyn Spindle, Mike Walker, Jerry Walker, Marsha Hankins, Roger Walker and Linda Orris. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, grandson Brian and 6 siblings: Harold Walker, Kenton Walker, Kenyon Walker, Lyle Walker, Leonard Walker Jr., and Lois Walker and his daughter-in-law Carol Holaday.
Maury was raised by his foster parents Thomas and Mary Moore whom he cherished dearly. He was a lifelong Mason County farmer, farming for over 70 years. He loved family dinners on the farm, puzzles, home renovations, watching hummingbirds, attending his great grandchildren’s events and spending time with his dog Rusty.
A funeral service is scheduled for Monday, July 8, 2024 at 10:30 Am at Maas-Hurley Funeral Home in Manito, Illinois, burial to follow at Meadow Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 7, 2024 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM also at the funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Forman Ambulance or American Cancer Society.
