James “Jim” D. Kinzer

James “Jim” D. Kinzer, 55, of Havana, passed away at 11:20 p.m. on Monday, July 1, 2024 at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield, Illinois. He was born on August 17, 1968 in Colorado Springs, Colorado to Rodger and Nancy (Carpenter) Kinzer. He married Barb Daniels in Havana on December 1, 1990.

Jim is survived by his wife, Barb Kinzer, of Havana; children, Kyle (Mikayla Higdon) Kinzer, Cody (Liane) Kinzer, and Kaylee (Katie Rhodes) Kinzer, all of Havana; one granddaughter, Isabelle Kinzer and a second grandchild due in November; and father, Rodger (Jeanne) Kinzer of Ipava. Also surviving are his brothers, Dion (Tina) Kinzer of Michigan and Garry Mathews of Colorado; sister, Carol of Colorado; brothers-in-law, David Daniels and Rob (Maureen Courtney) Daniels; sister-in-law, Kathy (Brock) Brooks; and several step-siblings, nieces, and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Wanda and Mike Daniels; and sister, Charol.
Jim was an Elder at Havana Church of Christ. He started his career in law enforcement as a guard at the Pontiac Prison and was later named Chief of Police in Kilbourne. He worked for many years as a Deputy for Mason County Sheriff’s Department before his retirement, and also as an officer in small towns in Mason County. He was also a certified Juvenile Officer. Jim enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a Master Gardener. He loved spending time with his family and was very involved in the church.
A visitation will be held on Friday, July 5, 2024 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Church of Christ in Havana. Funeral services will be on Saturday, July 6, 2024 at 11:00 a.m., also at the Church of Christ. Pastor Bill Boyce and Tim Sickmeyer will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Havana.
