Mansil I. Jett, 100, of Peoria, passed away at 11:58 a.m., October 13, 2023, at Proctor Hospital in Peoria, IL. He was born in Greenville, IL, to Irving and H. Marie Jett. Mansil married Lois Miram Landers on August 24, 1947. She preceded him in death on January 23, 1998. Mansil is survived by two children, Carol (David) Clark of Chillicothe, and Karen (the late Terry) Batts of Peoria; two brothers, Norval (the late Margie) Jett and Lowell (Verna) Jett; one sister, Geraldine (the late Duane) Wriedt; five grandchildren, Jeff (Joy) Clark, Julie (Mark) Brabant, Jill (Brian) Phillips, Tina (Jim) Cannon, and Laura (the late Arnie) Edwards; eleven great-grandchildren; and ten great-great-grandchildren with an eleventh on the way. Mansil went to Peoria High School and then served in the Army from 1943 to 1945. He was a lifetime member at Bethany Baptist Church in Edwards, IL, where he enjoyed Bible study and served in many roles in his younger years as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and Sunday School Superintendent. Mansil was generous with his finances and affection. He had huge hugs and a hearty laugh. He was a warm and wonderful father, grandfather, and family man. Strong and independent, he stayed active golfing and walking into advanced age. A determined man, he reached and nearly surpassed his goal of living to 100. He was proud of his service in World War II and lived a life of courage in all facets. He was bold in his faith, strong in his prayers, and constant in his Scriptures. He proclaimed daily, “the Lord has been so good to me.” Mansil lived and left a legacy of faith and faithfulness. Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, October 16, 2023, at Bethany Baptist Church. Pastor Lyall Sutton will officiate. A visitation will be held prior to the service, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., at the church. A private burial of ashes will be held at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria at a later date.
