She was born on August 19, 1935, in Washington, IL, to Arthur and Dena (Hartter) Hunziker.
She married Edward Rice on October 13, 1956, in Washington, IL. He preceded her in death in 2001.
LaVerne is survived by three children, Michael (Sally) Rice of Peoria, Julie (Sam) Altpeter of Peoria, and Angela Altpeter of Peoria; two brothers, Arthur Hunziker Jr. and Ken Hunziker; one sister, Irma Cherrie; five grandchildren, Amy (Clint) Haddock, Holly (Michael) Manthey, Ryan (Vanessa) Altpeter, Brittany (Chris) Gonzalez, and Andrew Rice; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Lawrence Hunziker and Donald Hunziker; and two sisters, Ruth Underhill and Eleanor Wallace.
LaVerne was a Realtor for over 40 years. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Peoria.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, October 9, 2023, at Bethany Baptist Church in Peoria. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church. A private burial of ashes will be held at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria at a later date.
