He was born in Champion, Missouri, on October 26, 1945. He married Barbara Swindler on July 3, 1965. They have two daughters, Karen Krider and Kathy (Krider) Slater; and two grand-daughters, Elizabeth (Kyle) Slater and Alexandria Slater.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lonnie and Carl Lee; and one sister, Vivian Floyd. He is survived by one brother, Donald (Reta) Krider of Peoria; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Harley worked for Illinois Bell and AT&T from 1968 until 2001. He started driving a school bus for Elmwood School District after retirement. He also volunteered as an escort at Proctor Hospital. He loved to play pickleball at the Elmwood Community Center. He was a faithful member of the Church of Christ in Peoria, IL.
His good humor and willingness to help others will be remembered by all who met him. He was a son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, friend, preacher, dedicated worker, humorist, volunteer, electrician, plumber, carpenter, and HVAC installer. He was a man of service and fellowship to Christ, family, and friends.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at noon on Friday, November 3, 2023, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Elmwood. A visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to noon. Food and fellowship will follow the service at Elmwood United Methodist Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Church of Christ, 707 South Baer Avenue, Peoria, IL, 61604, for missionary work.
