Shirley Ann Mayall

Shirley Ann Mayall, 92, previous resident of Ipava, passed away Thursday, June 22, 2023 at Betty’s Memory Garden of Courtyard Estates in Farmington. She was born in Table Grove on December 15, 1930 to Forrest and Lillian Pearl Haist. She married Claude W. (Jack) Mayall on July 23, 1949. He preceded her in death on November 26, 1994. Also preceding her in death was one son, Jackie Todd, a brother Bud Haist, and two sisters Lorraine Frazier and Dorothy Haist.

Surviving are her children: Ronnie Jack (Betsy) Mayall of Canton and Pamela (Steve) Butler of Astoria; grandchildren: Chad (Staci) Mayall of Canton, Sara Mayall of Davenport, IA, Meghan (Matt) Allen of Normal, and Nicholas (Ande) Butler of Bailey, CO; great grandsons Connor Mayall, Brady Mayall, Chase Allen, and Cade Allen. Shirley also had many nieces and nephews that she loved dearly.

Shirley worked as a butcher for years at Velma’s Market, which later was Mayall’s Market in Ipava. She closed the chapter on her butcher career at Speer’s Grocery in Table Grove. She was an active member of the Ipava Legion Auxiliary and the Ipava Christian Church. She also served as Pleasant Township Clerk. Jack and Shirley had many dogs that stole their hearts throughout the years, but we know her last dog, Trixie, was the first Heavenly greeting she received.

Shirley loved her children and was beyond supportive in many ways as a mother and grandmother. Nothing brought a smile to her face quicker than her grandchildren and great grandsons. Her love and support through all of their activities was a constant. If anyone in the family or community needed help, a pie or oatmeal cake whipped up, or noodles hand cut paper thin, Shirley always came through.

Shirley’s life will be honored and celebrated at 11 am on Wednesday, June 28 at the Ipava Christian Church with Reverend Brant Reed officiating. Interment will be at the Ipava Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday, June 27th at the Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria from 5 – 7 pm. Memorials can made to the Ipava Christian Church or the Ipava American Legion Auxiliary.
