Fred E. Shaw Jr., 99, of Westerville, OH, formerly of Trivoli, IL passed away June 21, 2022.
Fred was born in Canton, IL on October 2, 1922 to Fred E. Shaw Sr. and Goldie “Dot” Neff. Fred married Margaret “Peggy” Stevens on March 8, 1952 in Canton, IL. He was preceded in death by his wife Peggy, and his siblings Clarabelle, Irene, Merle, Richard, and Allen.
Fred is survived by his son Dan (Marcia) Shaw of Westerville, OH and daughter Dottie Shaw of Woodinville, WA. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Kyle, Kevin, Aaron, and Leah and great granddaughters: Regan and Savannah.
Fred retired from the Ohio River Barge Company in 1977. He was also a farmer and had a love of horses and trotter horse racing; raising trotter horses on his farm that he and Peggy bought in 1960. Fred lived on the farm until Peggy’s passing and moved to Westerville, OH to be near his son and grandchildren in 2004.
Fred was a member of the “greatest generation” as a veteran of WWII serving in the Navy from 1942-1944 repairing tanks and serving on the island of Saipan.
Fred and Peggy wanted children but were unable to have their own so they opened their hearts to adopt Dan and Dottie to provide a loving home and family. Dan and Dottie were blessed to be part of this family.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his honor to St Jude Midwest Affiliate or the Wounded Warrior Project.
Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, June 29, 2022 at 10am at Anderson-Sedgwick funeral home, 341 E. Fort Street, Farmington, IL followed by services at 11am officiated by Rev. Jim Reed.
