Clyde A. Gronewold, 83, of Chillicothe, passed away at 7:24 PM on Thursday, June 9, 2022 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL. He was born on April 20, 1939 in Peoria, IL to Clyde and Viola (McDonald) Gronewold.
Clyde is survived by four children, Lisa Kitchens of Bloomington, IL, Diana (Tim) Flynn of Morton, IL, Kyle (Amy Kallio-Gronewold) Gronewold of Chicago, IL, and Chris (Rebecca Stone) Gronewold of Bemidji, MN; six grandchildren, Nicholas (Taylor Johnson) Kitchens, Cameron Kitchens, Christina (Blake) Venovich, Nicole Flynn, Sophia Gronewold, and Leisel Gronewold; three great-grandchildren, Layla Kitchens, Carter Kitchens, and London Venovich.
He enjoyed the last few years with his loving partner Linda Lund.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Clyde graduated from Bradley University with a degree in Engineering. He then joined the United States Navy, graduating from Officer Candidate School. Clyde served on active duty for several years and continued in the Naval Reserves, retiring as a Commander.
Clyde worked at Hyster Company for many years, eventually retiring from Caterpillar Inc. He was an active member with the Reserve Officers Association Central IL Chapter (033) and the Military Officers Association of America. Clyde also enjoyed bowling, fishing, photography, and model railroading.
After retirement he also enjoyed spending time with his dogs Coco and Lexi.
Funeral service will be held at 12PM (noon) on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Farmington, IL. A visitation will be held the same day from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM. A burial will follow services at Trivoli Cemetery in Trivoli, IL. Rev. Kevin Van Tine will officiate. Memorials may be made out to www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
