Raymond “Ray” Neal DePriest, born September 23, 1954 in Peoria Illinois passed away on January 14, 2019 due to ALS. He is survived by his devoted wife of 41 years and the love of his life Pamela DePriest. Ray’s legacy continues through his children Raymond Neal DePriest Jr, Molly Jo DePriest, Melissa Sue DePriest, and Daniel Blair DePriest and his grandchildren Colin, Julia, Jarod, Issac, Marin, Peyton, Reagan, Jaydon, Elayna, Kennedy, Piper, Jaxon, and Kinsley. They were the joy of his life. Surviving siblings are Anita Smith, Wanda Mercer, and Stephen DePriest. Awaiting him in eternal joy are parents Clyde and Edith DePriest, in-laws Emil and Patricia Schultz, eldest brother Donald DePriest and his beloved dog Daisy Mae.
Ray graduated from Limestone High School in Bartonville, IL, where he studied music as first clarinet, participated in choir, had lead roles as a thespian, and excelled at painting and mathematics. Ray retired from Caterpillar after 44 years of employment as a machinist.
Everything Ray dabbled in became gloriously fun and his ingenuity was impressive. He devoted 10 years to boy scouts as a leader and mentor. He also passed on to his children a love for music, fishing, camping, and outdoors. He took his children canoeing on the Spoon River and Current River several times. He loved playing with his bluegrass band String Works! He could play the fiddle, mandolin, guitar and many other instruments. Another one of his hobbies was becoming a brew master and working towards that perfect Dortmunder! But spending time with his family was his most favorite past time.
Friends and family can visit the Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Farmington, IL from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. for the visitation and 12 p.m. for the service on Saturday, January 19, 2019. Following the services, cremation rites will be accorded with Anderson-Sedgwick Funeral Home in Farmington, IL. Burial of ashes will be at Trivoli Cemetery at a later date.
