Betty J. Thum
Canton – Betty J. Thum, 91, of Canton, passed away Wednesday, January 16, 2019, at Renaissance Care Center in Canton.
She was born on, May 29, 1927, in Canton, to Lemuel and Bessie (Vaughn) Seward.
She first married Marcus Walraven in 1946. He preceded her in death in 1971. She later married Hank Thum, who also preceded her in death in 1997.
Surviving is one daughter Becca (Robert) Hawkins, one daughter-in-law, Kathy Walraven, of Phoenix Arizona, one sister, Bonnie (Harold) Berry, of Phoenix Arizona, five grandchildren, Amy (Dave) Carzoli, of Woodstock, Brooke Thurau, of Chicago, Heather (Joe)Vandermeir, of Cary, Marcus (Natalie) Walraven, of Phoenix Arizona and Kyle (Jenna) Walraven, of Phoenix Arizona, nine great-grandchildren, Shea Carzoli, Christopher Carzoli, Isabel Vandermeir, Alexis Vandermeir, Joey Vandermeir, Emma Grace Walraven, Brody Walraven, Alice Walraven, Chereth Oswold, one step – grandchild, Jacob Hawkins and one step-great grandchild, Danny Ray Hawkins.
Also preceding her in death is one son, Rick Walraven, her brothers, Donald Seward, and Larry Seward, and one sister Barbara (Sidney) Savill.
Betty was the secretary for Canton USD #66 for ten years; she later worked for Andrew’s Furniture in Canton as Drapery designer. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Canton, Wee-Ma-Tuk Hills Country Club, the Canton Elk’s #626 and she also participated and delivered Meals on Wheels for several years. She loved to golf, play cards and cook, but most of all she loved all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Cremation rites have been accorded. There will be a celebration of Betty’s life in the spring.
