William R. Awl

 

William R. Awl, 84, formerly of 10 Douglas Ct, Canton, IL, passed away at 9:41 PM on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 in Fredericksburg, VA. He was born on December 3, 1932 in Canton to Virgil and Mary S. (Zorger) Awl. He married Barbara J. Drow on August 5, 1951 in Canton, she preceded him in death on March 8, 2012.

Also preceding him in death were his parents and one son, Jonathan Awl.

Surviving is one adopted son, Julio Garcia-Laffitte, daughter-in-law Lisa Diskin, four adopted grandchildren, and three adopted great-grandchildren, all of Fredericksburg, VA.

William retired from working at Caterpillar. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Canton. For the past five years William was enjoying a fantastic and busy life with his adopted family and his dog Buddy, in Virginia.

Service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, where a visitation will be held from 10-11 AM. Burial will follow the services at Greenwood Cemetery in Canton, IL, where Military Honors will be conducted. Cremation rites have been accorded. A luncheon will be held at 1 PM on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to Trinity Lutheran Church in Canton, IL.
