Shirley M. Carroll
Canton – Shirley M. Quin-Rilea-Darrow-Carroll, 91, of Canton, passed away at 2:45 pm, Sunday, March 12, 2017 at Graham Hospital in Canton. She was born on June 18, 1925 in Canton to Clare and Leona (Suydam) Hancock. They preceded her in death.
She married Richard Rilea on November 30, 1946. He preceded her in death in 1972. She later married Harvey Darrow in 1976. He preceded her in death in 1980. She lastly married James Carroll in 1982. He preceded her in death on June 29, 1995.
Surviving are her children, Daniel Quin of Lewistown, Cheryl Casteel of Canton, step children, Donald Darrow of FL, Peggy Swisher of Pekin, Thurston Carroll of Forest City, Robert Carroll of IL, one sister, Elaine Pollitt of Normal, six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, five great great grandchildren, several step grandchildren, several step great great grandchildren and several step great great grandchildren.
Also preceding her in death is two step sons Robert Darrow, James Carroll and one sister Bette Parks.
Shirley worked as a cook for the Patio Café and later for Mac’s Coffee Shop for 15 years. She lastly worked for the U.S. Post Office in Liverpool for 25 years. She worked 10 years as a clerk and 15 years as postmaster from, 1972-1988. She received an award from the post office department in 1976 for work done in the bicentennial year. She volunteered for the Graham Hospital Hospice for several years.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 16, 2017, from 5-7 pm at the Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton. Cremation rites will be accorded following the visitation and a Celebration of Life be held on Friday, March 16, 2017, at 3pm, at the 1st Church of the Nazarene in Canton, with a dinner to follow at the church. Burial of the ashes will be held at the Greenwood Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the 1st Baptist Church Food Pantry.
