Wilma R. Courtney
BREEDS- Wilma R. Courtney, 83, of Breeds, passed away at 10:15 PM on Monday, October 3, 2016 at her residence. She was born on March 5, 1933 in Fulton County, IL, a daughter of Sheldon and Ruth Mary Ashby Lingenfelter. She married Harold Courtney on January 29, 1952 in Lewistown. He survives.
Also surviving are his children, Rick (Sue) Courtney of Washington; Donna Courtney, of Breeds; Carol (Zeke Myers of Breeds; Betsy (Tim) Gilmore of Canton; and Bobbie Williamson, Breeds; 18 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; two sisters, Donna June Vanmiddlesworth of Lewistown; Judith Kay Bowman of Canton; and one son-in-law, Steve Widger.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary Widger; one grandson, William Edward Allen Lidwell; three brothers, Eugene, Sam and Virgil Lingenfelter; four sisters, Bernice Johnson, Juanita Crosetto, Alma Courtney, and Melba Smith.
Wilma worked as a caregiver for Lutheran Social Services for 25 years, and then continued to take care of others long after retirement. She was loved and cherished by many people; you could always find her sitting at the kitchen table waiting for her kids and grandkids, where she loved to teach them creative songs and poems. She loved her flowers, willow trees, and anything to keep her house and yard looking the best in breeds.
Celebration of life service will be on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at the Courtney’s Home in Breeds from 12:00 to 4:00 PM. Cremation rites will be accorded through Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory, 1995 North Main Street, Canton. Memorials can be made to the Graham Home Health & Hospice or to American Cancer Society.
