Floyd Spotser Jr.


Canton – Floyd A. Spotser Jr., 90, of Canton passed away at 1:20 a.m. on Thursday, October 6, 2016, surrounded by his family at home.
He was born October 19, 1925, in Peoria to Floyd and Emma (Wilson) Spotser Sr.  He married Alice Pickett Spotser and this union brought forth one son, Floyd Spotser III; and three grandchildren, Allison, Kristen, and Floyd “Boomer” Spotser IV.
He later married Delores Lee and his family grew larger with two children, Tracy Spotser and Stacey Spotser; twelve step-children, Jack Lee, Jamie Lee, Davey Lee, Tammy Terry, Sherry (Larry) Lundquist, Amy Gass, Cindy Lee, Kathy Laubrecht; and two other step-children.
On October 12, 1996, Floyd married Cathy Gayton Spotser.  Together they had two children, Deanna Patton Spotser and Devonte Spotser.  Also surviving are his step-children, Douglas Gayton, Cory Gayton, Elizabethy (Arron) Eubank, Tom (Nancy) Gayton, Troy (Karen) Gayton, Couri Gayton, and Janelle Gayton Shores; one sister, Mamye Derarian; and many grandkids and great-grandkids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his second wife, Delores Lee; one son, Floyd Spotser III; one step-son, Davey Lee; and three sisters, Harriett Mackey, Teresa Mackey, and Sydney Reddick.
Floyd was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving his country during World War II.  He worked for, and retired from, International Harvester in Canton, the City of Canton, and the Fulton County Courthouse, where he worked as a bailiff.  Following his retirement he also worked as a security guard for MSD.
In addition to his many jobs, Floyd loved farming.  He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with all of his grandchildren.  He was a member of the Canton American Legion and a lifetime member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Canton where he was head Deacon.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, October 10, 2016, at Oaks-Hines Funeral Home in Canton, where visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.  Burial, with military honors, will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Canton.  
Memorials may be made to Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in Canton.
