Marietta- John Nolan, 83, of Marietta, passed away at 6:39 AM on Sunday, December 17, 2023 at Graham Hospital in Canton. He was born on April 14, 1940 in Peoria, a son of Albert Henry and Francis Lucille (Miller) Nolan. He married Kay Smith on October 8, 1966 in Cuba, she preceded him in death on May 11, 1998. He later married Charlene Calhoun on May 4, 2005 in Lewistown. She survives.
Also surviving are his children, Kandi (Eugene) Jones of Marietta; Ricky (Judy) Nolan of Marietta; Terri Nolan of Macomb; two step-children, Renda Milleson of Canton; Jeremy (Jessica) Bevard of Galesburg; six grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren, and three sisters, Patricia (Dennis) Cameron of Bradford; Alberta Kidd of Saint Charles; Marcella Hankins of Kewanee.
John was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Eddie Nolan; one grandchild, and three brothers, Arthur, Ronald, and Russell.
He worked and retired as a welder from International Harvester in Canton/Ohio, after many years of service. As an avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching and feeding birds. He made a lot of things by working with leather, and was known as Cher-o-Kee on the CB, and sideband radio. but most of all, he loved spending time with his family, and as to them he was a big fan of John Wayne. Lastly, he was a veteran of the United States Army.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 22, 2023 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, where a visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until the time of services. Rev. Kevin VanTine will officiate. Burial will take place in Cuba Cemetery, following the services at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
