He was born September 11, 1937 at Canton, the son of Don C. and Maralee (George) Mason. He married JoAnn Hendee on November 29, 1959 at Cuba Christian Church. She survives along with four children, Darren (Laura) Mason of Cuba, Dana (Roger) Well of Sugar Grove, Brent Mason of Galesburg, and Becky (Michael) Hardy of Smithton, nine grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Don was a coal miner and a rural mail carrier for many years and retired from both. Don served his country in the U.S. Air Force from 1955-1959. He was a member of the United Mine Workers of America and the Rural Letter Carrier Association.
Don was a wonderful father, his favorite thing to do was take care of JoAnn and spending time with his family. He was an avid Cubs and Bears fan. Don also enjoyed fishing, and Illinois football, and basketball.
A visitation will be held from 1pm until 3pm Sunday December 17th at the Henry-Lange Memorial Home in Lewistown. A military service will be conducted at the funeral home following the visitation by the Lewistown VFW Post 5001, the Lewistown American Legion Bishop Post 1, and the US Air Force. Cremation will then be accorded. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lewistown at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude. Online condolences may be made at henrylange.com.
