Mary "Jeanette" Walters
Mary “Jeanette” Walters, 66, of Astoria, passed away at 12:47 am on Friday, May 6, 2016 at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb. She was born on April 9, 1950 in Macomb, the daughter of Whitney and Mary Ellen (Hickle) Mercer. She married David Walters in 1968 in Vermont.
Survivors include her daughter, Katy Smith of Astoria, grandson, Lars Smith of Astoria, mother, Mary Ellen Farwell of Astoria, brother, Bruce (and Anita) Mercer of Vermont, step-daughter, Patricia Hayes of Havana, 3 step-sons, Joe (and Jenny) Hayes of Astoria, Brian (and Crystal) Hayes of Astoria and Tony (and Shantell) Hayes of Vermont, numerous step-grandchildren, nephews and 1 great-niece.
She is preceded in death by her father, Whitney Mercer.
Jeanette was a housekeeper at Culbertson Memorial Hospital in Rushville. She was a member of the Vermont Methodist Church when she was younger. She enjoyed camping, fishing and wild flowers.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 10, 2016 at Shawgo Memorial Home in Astoria. Pastor Ken Peterson will be officiating. A visitation will take place from 6 to 8 pm on Monday, May 9, 2016. Interment will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Astoria. Memorials may be made to the Jeanette Walters Memorial Fund.
