Carol Ann Umbach

Carol Ann Umbach, 90, of Havana passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2023. She was born on November 7, 1933 in Peoria, Illinois to August W. and Inez (Van Etten) Krause. She married Joe Umbach at Bishop Lutheran Church on August 15, 1954 and he preceded her in death on July 21, 2001.

Carol is survived by her children, Dana (Andy) Busch of Champaign, Illinois, Michelle (Paul) Wiederholt of Cumming, Georgia, William (Marlene) Umbach of Petersburg, and Robert (Patti) Umbach of Easton; five grandchildren, Rob, Jena, Rachel, Ingrid, and Ava; six great-grandchildren, Ethen, Parker, Kelbi, Finnley, Loxli, and Jaci; and sister-in-law, Wanda Krause. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Jon Krause, and grandson, Luke Busch.
Carol was a member of Easton United Methodist Church. She graduated from Easton High School. She received her Bachelor’s from the University of Illinois in Urbana in Home Economics with several honors including many honorary scholarship and leadership awards, Mortarboard and Bronze Tablet. She was associate editor of the U of I yearbook, the Illio.
She was determined to be a good housewife, farm wife, and mother, and was very successful. Her recipes are still used by and remembered by many area friends, especially her lasagna, cheesecake, baked beans, and Swedish Tea Ring. She and Joe belonged to a Bridge Club of area couples that met for many years and that evolved into her learning contract bridge, playing in Midwest tournaments, earning her Life Master of Contract Bridge. She is well known in the local area as an exceptional bridge player. Carol served the area through many organizations as well as serving on the County Board of Review for many years.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Easton United Methodist Church, with a visitation from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Easton Cemetery. A luncheon will follow the burial at Easton United Methodist Church.
