Doris Louise Hackman, 98, of Havana, Illinois died peacefully in her sleep at Mason City Area Nursing Home on July 2, 2022. She was born June 12, 1924 in Bluffs, Illinois to Henry and Martha (Lovekamp) Schone. Doris married Delbert Hackman on October 13, 1946 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Chapin, Illinois. They were married 71 years. Delbert died on December, 2017. Doris is survived by her four children; Ron (Jan) Hackman of Havana, Marcia Hackman of Westminster, Colorado, Marilyn (John) Carpenter of Westminster, Colorado and Mark (Cathy) Hackman of Havana. Also surviving are seven grandchildren; Suzanne (Leland) Treebs of Escondido, California, Ben (Kristen) Hackman of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, Ryan (Linh) Carpenter of Littleton, Colorado, Jeffrey (Jenny) Hackman of Havana, Ross (Kiki) Carpenter of Wheat Ridge, Colorado, Anne Hackman of Havana and Natalie Hackman of Raleigh, North Carolina. Doris also has seven great grandchildren.She was the sixth of ten children, graduating from high school at 17, then successfully completing courses at Brown Business College in Jacksonville, Illinois. During WWII, Doris worked at Commerce Mercantile Bank in St. Louis, Missouri. Doris is remembered raising chickens and selling the fryers to neighbors and friends, sewing dresses for her twin daughters, painting ceramic pieces and her many volunteer activities. She was a member of both the Ladies Aid and Altar Guild at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and was also active with the Mason District Hospital Auxiliary.
A funeral service will be held at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on Friday, July 8, 2022 at 1:00 p.m., with visitation two hours prior to the service. Burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Rev. Ian Heinz will officiate.
