Alice Marie Leinberger, 91, of Springfield, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2022, at Montvale Estates in Springfield. She was born on July 9, 1930, to Frank and Louise (Christensen) Dirks near Newmansville, Illinois.
Alice married Joseph Leinberger on August 5, 1951, at the Newmansville Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church where she taught vacation bible school. She was a member of the University of Illinois Home Extension, led youths in 4-H and was a major part of helping Joe with the family farm.
Alice is survived by her two daughters, Bonnie (husband Steve) Verhulst of Springfield, Illinois, and Alicia (husband Wyatt) Ainsworth of Athens, Illinois; her grandchildren, Lori Verhulst of Springfield, Michael Verhulst of Austin, Texas, William Ainsworth of Athens and Amie Ainsworth of Springfield; a brother, Don Dirks of Jacksonville, Illinois; a brother in law, Floyd Musch of Jacksonville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a daughter, Linda Leinberger; a sister, Hazel Leinberger; and an infant brother, “Frankie” Dirks.
Cremation rites were accorded and a memorial gathering will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg, Illinois, from 5 pm to 7 pm. The memorial service will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2022, at 10 am at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Petersburg with Pastor Jeffrey Gross officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Petersburg.
