Evelyn V. Smith

Evelyn V. Smith, 71, of Canton, passed away at 12:07 PM on Monday, October 11, 2021 at Graham Hospital in Canton, IL. She was born on August 10, 1950 in Pittsfield, IL to Alfred and Evelyn (Schumann) Barnes. She married Gary A. Smith on June 18, 1965 in Canton, IL. He survives.

Also surviving are two daughters, Candy (Craig) Harkless of Canton, IL and Peggy (Ron) Zessin of Farmington, IL; five grandchildren, Jeremy (Brandi) Smith of Canton, Skyler (Ariel) Harkless of St. David, Katie (Derek) Halsey of Maquon, Garritt Lewis of Breeds, and Jerred Lewis of Breeds; nine great-grandchildren, Kaylynn, Aubree, Ryder, and Gracelynn Smith, Ayden, Josie, and Reylee Halsey, Eli and baby girl Harkless; two brothers, Bob (Sandy) Barnes of Canton, Dennis (Amy) Barnes of Williamsville; three sisters, Judy Whitman of Canton, Mary (Paul) Rozanski of Decatur, and Bonnie (Matt) Rueff of Decatur; and sister-in-law, Marian Barnes.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother, Butch Barnes; and son-in-law, James Lewis.

Evelyn worked and retired in 2015 from Pekin Insurance. She also worked for the Overall Factory, Tempo, and the Gambling Boat. Evelyn loved to be with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed puzzles, books, crocheting, and cooking.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, October 18, 2021 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory in Canton, IL. A visitation will be held from 4 -6 PM on Sunday, October 17, 2021 at Sedgwick Funeral Homes & Crematory. Burial will follow service at Orendorff and Breed Cemetery in Breeds, IL.
